Dr. Mahesh Yaranal

Librarian (I/C)

Mahesh Yaranal has been an integral part of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) since 1997 and currently serves as the Librarian In-Charge. With over two decades of dedicated service in academic librarianship, he brings deep expertise in library administration, information systems, and digital scholarship.

He holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Karnatak University and earned his PhD in Library Sciences from Bangalore University, Bengaluru. His doctoral research focused on the digitization of rare and classic resources, reflecting his commitment to preserving and enhancing access to scholarly heritage.

At NLSIU, Mahesh oversees the overall administration of the library, including the management of journals, subscription databases, and user services. He has led numerous library workshops and orientation programmes, playing a key role in enhancing information literacy among students and faculty.

A strong advocate for digital innovation, Mahesh has played a pivotal role in advancing the digital infrastructure at NLSIU. He was instrumental in developing the Digital Access to NLSIU Scholarship (DANS), the university’s institutional repository built on the DSpace platform. His contributions also include the implementation of key ICT solutions such as NLS_LIS, an in-house library management system introduced in 2000, and the successful transition to Koha —an open-source integrated library system that now serves as both the library’s catalogue and discovery platform. Additionally, he led the integration of RFID solutions to streamline and automate all in-house library operations.

As part of the Library’s Strategic Plan 2021, he is actively engaged in conceiving new academic programmes in information sciences, reinforcing the library’s role in academic and research excellence. His research output includes publications in national and international journals, contributions to edited volumes, and book chapters.

Madhu K S

Assistant Librarian

Madhu K S has been working with NLSIU since 2001. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Mysore in 2000 and completed his M.Phil in Library and Information Science from Alagappa University in 2011. He has over 20 years of work experience in Library and Information Science Practice and Research.

Prior to working at NLSIU, he was a Resource Person for the Library Automation Project at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore, and a Library Trainee at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore. He also cleared his Karnataka State Eligibility Test in 2015.

At the NLSIU library, he is in charge of acquisition, cataloguing, and maintenance of the books, eBooks, theses & dissertations, and also handles assistive technology for the visually impaired. Other responsibilities include uploading materials on to the digital library (Institutional repository), online and offline referral services, updating reading materials on LMS, maintaining question papers/answer keys, library orientation for new users, and management of information resources.

Besides working as the Assistant Librarian, he was also a member of the Sexual Harassment Committee of NLSIU, Admissions office staff for NLSIU 3 years LLB (Hons.) programme and Faculty Recruitment Shortlisting Committee.

With a few published papers to his credit, his interest areas in research are Use of social media in libraries, digital library and user’s study.

Siddu Huded

Assistant Librarian

With over 8 years of experience in university library management, Sidlingappa Huded holds a master’s degree in library and information science from Karnatak University, Dharwad, and a postgraduate diploma in library automation and networking from the University of Hyderabad. He has qualified for UGC-NET and K-SET.

Before his tenure at NLSIU, Sidlingappa made significant contributions at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, where he oversees collection development, library services, user training, scholarly communication, and technology implementation. As a core member of the archives team, he contributed to the Schoolbooks Archive—an open-access repository preserving textbooks and related artifacts spanning the last two centuries on the subcontinent. He also played a key role in establishing the Dr. PM Bhargava Archives.

He is interested in community libraries and actively supports village panchayat libraries around Azim Premji University. He has spearheaded various initiatives aimed at engaging community members and improving library accessibility.

His research contributions extend across journals, conferences, book chapters, and newspapers. Sidlingappa’s diverse interests include bibliometrics, user studies, community libraries, electronic information resources, archives, and open access. His publications can be accessed here.

Subhranshubhusan Sahoo

Assistant Librarian

Subhranshubhusan Sahoo has previousky worked at the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) as a librarian from April 2022 to September 2024, where he was responsible for managing all aspects of library operations. In addition to this, he led the planning and implementation of the MSSRF archive, playing a pivotal role in preserving and organizing key institutional documents and research outputs. He completed his PhD in Library and Information Science on August 27, 2024, from the University of Calcutta, with his research based at the Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), Indian Statistical Institute.

During his PhD, he also gained experience as a teaching assistant, guiding master’s students in subjects related to library and information science. His academic background includes a postgraduate degree in Library and Information Science from DRTC, further enhancing his expertise in this field.

Subhranshubhusan has a strong research portfolio, having published seven research papers in various peer-reviewed journals. His work spans key areas such as Data Citation, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, and Ontology, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in these fields. His combination of practical experience and research excellence makes him a notable figure in the domain of library and information science.
